Hi there,
as I see comments in the forum on majority of the trails you can start still directly from the parking place (in the worst case scenario you will need to walk a short distance). Anyway, snowfall is forecasted during the weekend...I plan to be in Chocholowska valley as of Friday - according to some collleagues skiing conditions (Grzes, Rakon peaks) are good.
good skiing !

Hello,
thank you for reply!
Maybe we will meet us next week in the Tatras.

Hello everybody,

I'm planning to go to the High Tatras end of next week to do the classic Haute-Route near Zakopane. I was wondering if there still enough snow to do some ski-mountainnering in High Tatras this year, because it is been very warm in Zakopane last week and it should warm too this week.

Do you think we will have to carry our skies a lot on the bagpack or that it will be ok?

Thank you for your reply

Thanks for answers! It seems that we will get ability to leave our baby to grandparents, so our opportunities will grow up little bit…

Maciejka: Yes my wife was six years ago in Ural for skiing.. But this skiing style little bit differs from this one that we saw in Tatras. In Ural ( as well as in Chibin, Siberia) we went with full weight for two or three weeks, at that years we used wide and thick wooden skies and so on…

I think it would be usefull to get few ski touring technique lessons. May be you could recommend somebody? What is prices about?

Hi Vytenis,

At the end of march snow cover is usually very good.

Morskie Oko offers a lot of touring possibilities at the more ambitious end of the spectrum. Usually ascents start with moderately steep slope which ends in a steep couloir. None of them are short if one wants to reach peak or pass. Comparable to terrain around Chata pri zelenom plese.

Other area You might also consider is Hala Gasienicowa and Murowaniec hut. Comparable hut. More less difficult shorter tours. You won't be able to get there by carriage though.

If you want to do short half day tours it does not make sense to stay in Zakopane. Too far from the mountains.

mk

P.S.: Have You been in Ural Mnts for skiing?

Hi,

I would recommend staying in Zakopane area. This will give you a better choice of accomodation. Plenty of ski touring routes around Zakopane for one day trips.
If you decide to stay at Morskie Oko...you have a chance to get snowed in for a couple of days Very Happy
There are quite a few people from Zakopane at this forum...I am sure they can help you with the ski touring routes...

regards and good luck

Hi for all,
We have little bit strange plan. To go for ski touring in Tatras on the end of March. The trick is that our team consist from three members ( I, my wife ant our 1 years old doughter)

Our preliminary plans are:
We are going to stay in Morskie Oko. In first half of the day one of ours go for skiing , in the second another. Who stay in Morskie Oko walk with baby . Another will skies, but not go very far away because of avalanche danger. If we found another family for cooperation the opportunities for skiers would be rather better.

What about us: we have few times skitoured in Slovakia Tatras and more the 10 year experience in various mountains: Summer – Caucasus, Pamir, Tian-Shan, Altai; Winter: Chibinij, Ural, Siberia.
The questions for your :
1 What about living with baby in Morskie Oko? We don’t need water or WC in the rooms, but separate rooms little bit better than in Chata pri Zelionom plese would be desirable.
2 What about whether conditions in the end of March? What about conditions in the beginning of April?
3 May be you could suggest better regions for such strange ski touring team?
4 Other your remark about this our idea?

Hi,
I'd like to come in the Tatras next winter but I've seen on a website (don't rememder which one) that you had to be with a guide or a local club to ski out of the official way. Is it true?

In all Polish mountains You need to have a guide (above 1000m), but this runs only on organized groups (such as schooltrips). Individual tourists may stay in the National Park as long as they use the "official ways" (we call it marked tourist routes).
If You leave the oficial way and get busted by the park rangers it can be very expensive Sad
To avoid such situations stay in contact with us and probably some locals will consult Your routs and plans (if You write here what are Your plans and goals), or maybe even "escort" U.

Ok, i'll write to you when i'm there. About my mountaineering and skiing experience, i can say a little bit more. At first I'm in snowboard but i have all the mountain equipment for security and practice (i don't know how you call them in english) and my level is ok ( 4.3 in the volo cotation or D in the alpine one but i don't know if those cotations are international). I didn't hike a lot this winter so i'm not in my best physical form now but it's ok.

Philip,

Sorry I forgot you are going to have 2 small children with you. In this case a guest house in Zakopane or one of the villages near Z. is probably the best place. You prefer to stay in a village or in a town? I can ask friends living in that area to recommend a place with a nearby ski school 4 your kids.

As you say Zakopane is a ski resort but I would suggest a ski tour from a mountain hut to a mountain hut. There are a couple of possibilities. One of them is:
http://opolezone.pro24.pl/skitour/skitour_houte.htm

It starts in Slovakia and ends in Poland but there are other possibilities of course.

Dzień = day

chata = hut (in Slovakian)

Zakopane is surely a good destination, but I do not now, if it is the best.
It will be good, to leave Your car there, but it is not in the center of those mountains, so it is not the best way, to Stay there for nights.
I´m mostly active, not in the Tatras, but in the Karkonosze Mountains, so I´m probably not the best person to answer that question.

Because a screen says more, than 1000 words:

Tatra Mountains webcamexample http://zakopaneonline.pl/webcam/ (under the webcamphoto is a Photo, that shows, what You can see, when the air is clear)

Karkonosze webcamexample http://www.hala-szrenicka.com/webcam.html

Bieszczady webcamexample http://83.18.111.82/view/view.shtml?imagePath=/mjpg/video.mjpg&size=1

The best snowreport is now in the Tatras, in the other Mountaingroups in Poland there is no Skiable snow at the moment Sad
